We will work diligently to provide the landowner with the greatest ROI for their land while achieving continual profitability and growth for Smoot Farms. This will be achieved through intensely and wisely managing our business. We strive to continually expand our knowledge base and make practical business decisions in the best interest of all parties involved.

Smoot Farms was re-established (officially) in 1995 by three open-minded, hardworking high school students. Our farm started with six rented acres and an old steer feed lot at our grandparent’s place. We finished out about sixty feeder pigs on the steer lot for Terra Plana Family Farms in exchange for four bred sows. Thus a business was born.

We have since exited the swine business to focus more intently on the row crop portion of our farm. We are a growing and expanding enterprise. Over the years we have gained the knowledge and experience that keeps us competitive in the game of farming. These experiences have come from all areas; in the field, in the office, on the shop floor working on equipment, meeting with input representatives, agronomists, farm managers, and on the phone and internet marketing grain.

Leadership Team:

Seth Smoot
Farming combines two of Seth’s greatest passions, business and agriculture. The challenges and rewards of running a successful business has always inspired Seth to try and find the most practical way to increase the clients return on investment as well as our own. Seth is married to Laura, and they have three boys, Camden, Ty, and Bennett.

Jed Smoot
Jed is a natural born agriculturalist. His inquisitiveness of how things work and his hands on experience determining this, has developed a high mechanization I.Q., which makes Jed an inherent fit to manage the day to day field operations, maintenance program, and supplier inventories. If we are not conducting field operations, Jed can be found scouting crops or on the shop floor working on equipment.

Doug Kirk-Doug has been a farm owner and operator longer than he has been driving. Our unique farming venture has catapulted Doug’s leadership and marketing skills years ahead of his age. He is a member of the Illinois Agriculture Leadership Foundation, a member of the Vermilion County Farm Bureau Leaders Committee, and an active advocate for agriculture with both local and State governments. Be sure to check out his blog.
